For Schools

Days of Knights offer two series of medieval education sessions that bring the Middle Ages alive in your classrooms for your students.

  • One is directed at the Year 8 The Humanities - History learning outcomes, and uses a fun, interactive environment to deepen the students' understanding of the Middle Ages.
  • The other is a more informal and entertaining, hands on session, aimed at years 5 and 6.

The presenters are all well versed in life in the Middle Ages, being actively involved in Living History groups. Careful attention is paid to the level of detail and accuracy of the clothing and equipment used by our presenters, with the exception of some pieces of safety equipment.

Our staff carry their Working With Children cards on them at all times.

Special Needs Students and Cultural Awareness

Days of Knights recognises that many schools have integration programmes, and we can ensure that the needs of integrated students are met so they can benefit equally from the activities and learnings we offer. We also recognise that, in the past, the study of history, especially Medieval European History, has been taught and investigated in quite an ethnocentric manner. We pride ourselves on being able to take course material and examine it in terms of a variety of cultural, religious and social viewpoints. Like Australia today has been shaped by the many cultures who call it home, many races, many cultures and many religious persuasions shaped the course of history in the Middle Ages. Our material sensitively introduces these influences into our sessions, and offers students another insight into today's society through understanding the past.

Additional Material

Days of Knights believes that learning extends beyond the short time we are allotted, and to this end we welcome enquiries, and are happy to advise, about ways in which the day can be made even more memorable. We can offer tie-in activities that can be undertaken in other subjects such as Art, English, Science, Health & PE and Technology. We believe the learning experience can be greatly enhanced if the students can immerse themselves in the material covered, as well as providing a more entertaining framework in which to conduct the presentations.

We are also happy to develop follow up medieval education resources and kits for teachers to use to explore concepts further and broaden the scope of the Days of Knights presentation.

We also will be able to provide medieval education resource links to enable teachers to find what they need to stimulate interest in the classroom.
